Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia's parliament on October 25 passed constitutional amendments barring holders of the country's top positions, including prime minister, upper and lower house speakers, and head of the constitutional council, from being citizens of other countries.
At least 110 Cambodian lawmakers voted in favor of the draft at a plenary session.
The new law bans the Prime Minister, the presidents of the Senate and National Assembly, and the president of the Constitutional Council from holding any other citizenship other than Cambodian to avoid foreign interference.
The revised constitution will need to be reviewed by the Senate and the Constitutional Council before being submitted to King Norodom Sihamoni for approval./.
