Cambodia ramps up fight against human trafficking, sexual exploitation

Cambodia clamped down on 104 human trafficking and sexual exploitation cases in the first half of 2024, the country’s National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT) reported.

Hanoi (VNA) - Cambodia clamped down on 104 human trafficking and sexual exploitation cases in the first half of 2024, the country’s National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT) reported.

They consist of 22 cases of human trafficking and 82 linked with sexual exploitation, it said, noting that during the crackdowns, authorities arrested a total of 134 suspects, including four foreigners.

Meanwhile, 290 victims, including 241 females, were rescued. As many as 134, or 46%, of them are under the age of 18, the NCCT went on.

Secretary of State of the Cambodian Interior Ministry Chou Bun Eng, who is also Vice Chairwoman of the NCCT, said the country’s government will continue to do its best to eliminate all forms of human trafficking and sexual exploitation./.
