Cambodia sees slowing COVID-19 infection rate

After several days with more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 each day, Cambodia reported just 40 new infections cases on March 29 morning, along with six recoveries.

Phnom Penh(VNA) – After several days with more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 each day, Cambodiareported just 40 new infections cases on March 29 morning, along with sixrecoveries.

Data of the country’sMinistry of Health showed that 36 of the new cases were Cambodians and the remainingwere Chinese nationals, with 29 of them being in Phnom Penh.

On the same day,Cambodia recorded one additional death of COVID-19. The patient was a39-year-old man residing in Chamkarmon district of Phnom Penh.

With these numbers,Cambodia has registered a total of 2,273 COVID-19 cases, of which 1,172 havebeen given the all-clear and 11 died.

Cambodia's PrimeMinister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the same day that the Southeast Asiannation has set a goal of providing one million shots of the COVID-19 vaccine toits citizens per month.

The Cambodian PM saiddoctors will be dispatched by the central authorities to assist in the vaccinerollout carried out in different areas of the country in order to speed up theinoculation drive.

Meanwhile, thePhilippines has re-imposed stricter quarantine measures in the Metro Manila,the country’s major economic hub, and four nearby provinces since March 29, amidthe rise of new cases. The measures would affect more than 24 million people.

Philippine officialswarned the week-long restrictions could be extended if the number of infectionsdoes not fall.

More contagiousvariants of the coronavirus have been blamed for the record spike that hastaken the country's caseload to more than 730,000./.

Vietnam calls for stronger ASEAN unity, resilience

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang urged ASEAN to make full use of existing mechanisms to enhance dialogue, build trust and prevent risks and conflicts, particularly by strengthening the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (SEANWFZ), and cooperation based on international law.

Vietnam steps up trade, investment promotion at China-ASEAN Expo

According to the CAEXPO Secretariat, Vietnam will once again lease an entire exhibition area of about 3,000sq.m, featuring 170 booths, making it one of the ASEAN countries with the largest exhibition spaces at this year’s event. Vietnam reaffirms commitment to building resilient, inclusive and integrated ASEAN Labour Market

To this end, Vietnam proposed three strategic priorities for ASEAN cooperation. First, ASEAN should expand and harmonise mutual recognition mechanisms by increasing the scope and number of Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) in the region; and promote the role of the ASEAN TVET Council (ATC) in connecting national skills certification systems with regional and global standards, based on national occupational skills qualification frameworks and regional references.
