(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia will host theASEAN Film Festival 2017 from September 8-17 to commemorate the 50thanniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The event will be jointly held by the Ministry ofInformation of Cambodia and the embassies of the ten ASEAN nations.
Speaking at a press conference on August 30 toannounce the event, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Information Mao Ayuthsaid five decades since founded, ASEAN has become a bloc sharing the samedestiny and an economic, political, social and cultural community that has beengrowing strongly.
Each nation has its own identity, traditionalculture and arts and intra-bloc cultural exchanges will enrich the spirituallives of member states and the entire ASEAN, he added.
Each embassy will select a film from its countryto be screened on the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK) and Royal ArmedForces Television Channel 5 (TV5), said Ambassador of the Philippines toCambodia Christopher Montero.
Vietnam will bring to the festival a classicmovie “Bao gio cho den thang Muoi” (When the Tenth Month Comes) by director Dang NhatMinh. The film won a Special Jury Award at the Hawaii International FilmFestival 1985 and a Golden Lotus at the Vietnam National Film Festival 1985.
As a haunting portrait of one woman’s strugglewith loss and personal sacrifice during the war, the film is considered by manylocal and international critics the greatest Vietnamese movie ever made.
It was selected by CNN as one of the 18 all-timebest Asian films. -VNA
