Cambodian citizens queue to cast ballots at Senate election on February 25 (Source: VNA) Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodia will monitor and controlonline news intended to cause “instability” ahead of the July general election,according to an official notice released by the government on June 4.
The notice said that the Cambodian government will control news contents,writings, audios, pictures, videos, and other forms of news which aim to causeinstability.
Authorities will also require Internet service providers tohave software and equipment to filter or block websites, accounts or socialmedia pages that “broadcast in violation of the law”.
The government said the move aims to control contents whichlead to the destruction of national defence, security and relationships withother countries, public order, culture, and national tradition.
In the general election, scheduled for July 29, Cambodianvoters will vote for 125 parliamentarians. Cambodia’s National ElectionCommittee issued a notice recognising 20 parties eligible for theelection.
The royal police force will deploy 80,000 security officers to ensure safetyand order during the event.-VNA
