Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia will strengthen ASEAN’scentral role so as to maintain peace, security and prosperity as Chair of ASEAN for 2022, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs andInternational Cooperation Prak Sokhonn said on December 29.
Speaking at a press conference on Cambodia’s ASEANChairmanship Priorities 2022, he said that Cambodia will consolidatemultilateralism and multilateral processes via ASEAN-led mechanisms.
Cooperative actions will be maintained in an open,transparent, inclusive and rules-based manner, he added.
Cambodia will also promote trust, respect, attention andmutual understanding in keeping with principles and goals set in the UnitedNations Charter, ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation inSoutheast Asia (TAC), and more.
ASEAN’s central role will be enhanced in the face of increasinganti-globalisation movement, unilateralism and protectionism, along with ASEANWay and unity in diversity, Sokhonn affirmed.
He added that Cambodia will exert efforts to bolster ASEAN’scooperation with partners in a bid to maintain peace and stability in theregion, as well as boost the building of the ASEAN Community./.
