Cambodia to strengthen ASEAN’s central role as Chair 2022: FM
Cambodia will strengthen ASEAN’s central role so as to maintain peace, security and prosperity as Chair of ASEAN for 2022, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn said on December 29.

Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia will strengthen ASEAN’s
central role so as to maintain peace, security and prosperity as Chair of ASEAN for 2022, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn said on December 29.
Speaking at a press conference on Cambodia’s ASEAN
Chairmanship Priorities 2022, he said that Cambodia will consolidate
multilateralism and multilateral processes via ASEAN-led mechanisms.
Cooperative actions will be maintained in an open,
transparent, inclusive and rules-based manner, he added.
Cambodia will also promote trust, respect, attention and
mutual understanding in keeping with principles and goals set in the United
Nations Charter, ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in
Southeast Asia (TAC), and more.
ASEAN’s central role will be enhanced in the face of increasing
anti-globalisation movement, unilateralism and protectionism, along with ASEAN
Way and unity in diversity, Sokhonn affirmed.
He added that Cambodia will exert efforts to bolster ASEAN’s
cooperation with partners in a bid to maintain peace and stability in the
region, as well as boost the building of the ASEAN Community./.
