Cambodia vows to assist search for Vietnamese soldiers’ remains

The Military Region 3 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and six provinces in the region have pledged to continue supporting the search for and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia during wartime.

At a workingsession with a Vietnamese defence attaché delegation in Cambodia on July18, leaders of the military region and the six provinces said that theywill provide accurate information about the places where Vietnamesemartyrs are buried and implement policies giving incentives to peoplewho join the search operation.

Deputy Governorof Kampong Speu province Pen Sambo affirmed that the localadministration always considers the search for and repatriation ofVietnamese soldiers’ remains as an important and essential task so as toexpress their gratitude to Vietnamese martyrs for their sacrifice forCambodia’s national liberation.

On thisoccasion, Vietnamese Defence Attaché Colonel Nguyen Anh Dung presented58,000 USD to representatives of the Military Region 3 and the sixprovinces, which will be spent on the search work.

From 2001 to now, in the six provinces of Kampong Speu, Takeo,Kampot, Kep, Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong, search teams from Vietnam andCambodia have found and repatriated a total of 3,224 sets of remains ofVietnamese soldiers.

By 2020, the two countries plan to bring home the remains of 4,500 Vietnamese soldiers.-VNA

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.

Shift to data-driven administrative procedures needs acceleration

Under a draft decree replacing Decree 63, authorities will have to proactively pull information from databases and records for informational or technical procedures.
