Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on April 14 declared that the government will not tolerate anyone who attempts to cause social chaos and urged people to continue supporting him to maintain the country’s peace.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Angkor Sankranta festival in the northwestern province of Siem Reap, the PM asserted that the country must maintain peace at any cost as it brings survival, development and poverty reduction.
The announcement came after the government arrested opposition lawmaker Um Sam An on April 11 for posting messages and video clips to his Facebook page, inciting revolt against the border map between Cambodia and Vietnam.
On April 12, a Phnom Penh court accused the lawmaker of inciting revolt and using fake documents. If indicted, he could face up to five years behind bars.
In August last year, opposition senator Hong Sok Hour was also arrested for similar charges and was convicted of falsifying public documents, using fake documents, and inciting serious chaos to social security.-VNA
