Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Cambodian Senate passed changes to the Law on Political Parties on July 18, one week after the National Assembly adopted them.
The meeting saw participation of 42 senators of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and no representatives from the opposition party Sam Rainsy.
The law aims to reinforce the law-ruling state, promote the rights and the duty of every citizen as well as the responsibility of every political party to guarantee proper respect for the constitution and the law.
The amendments need to be approved by the Cambodian Constitutional Council and signed by the King before they are brought into effect.
The Law on Political Parties was first ratified in 1997./. -VNA
