Cambodia’s Independence Day celebrated in HCM City

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City on November 8 co-hosted a get-together celebrating Cambodia ’s 60 th Independence Day.

Le Hung Quoc, President of the VUFO’s HCM City branch, cheered Cambodian people on their achievements, affirming the two countries are speeding up their result-orientated relations in various spheres.

At the event, Sim Sokhom, Cambodian Consul General in HCM City said Cambodian people will always remember the sentiments as well as prompt assistance Vietnam has offered to their country in different times.

The traditional solidarity and friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam is special as it has been fostered by generations of leaders and will continue to be preserved, nurtured and promoted by younger generations, he said.

Vietnam is the fifth largest foreign investor in Cambodia with its investment capital reaching 2 billion USD. Two-way trade between the two countries valued around 3.3 billion USD.

The two countries have expanded their cooperation across trade, agriculture, tourism, culture, education, healthcare, banking, science and technology, and transport and communications.

Vietnam has invested in building Cho Ray-Phnom Penh hospital in Cambodia, which is scheduled to begin operating in January 2014.

Around 1,000 Cambodian students are studying in Vietnam , mostly in Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA
