Representatives from the diocese of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho’s Vinh Thanh district made visits to the municipal Party Committee and People’s Committee on January 20 ahead of Lunar New Year (Tet).
Priest Bui Duy Tan voiced the Catholic community’s gratitude to the city’s authorities for providing them a happy and prosperous life for years.
Can Tho has nearly 500,000 followers of various religions. The city is committed to religious freedom as well as the maintenance of political security and social order and safety. Visits to local churches and pagodas on holidays are also held annually.
Local organisations and individuals from all religions have made positive contributions to charitable activities such as presenting gifts, providing free health check-ups and medicine, and building houses for poor households. They have also raised 27 million VND for the “For Beloved Truong Sa” fund.
Dao Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said Can Tho will continue supporting the Catholic community in economic development by providing them loan access and vocational training.-VNA
