Can Tho (VNA) – Authorities in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on December20 handed over an investment certificate to the China Everbright InternationalCompany to build a 47-million-USD waste-to-energy plant.
The Thoi Laisolid waste treatment plant will be built on an area of 53 hectares in TruongXuan commune, Thoi Lai district. Construction of the factory is scheduled tokick off in February 2017.
After itscompletion in February 2018, the facility is capable of treating 400 tonnes ofgarbage a day and generating electricity for the national grid.
Director Generalof China Everbright International Chen Xiao Ping said, as one of the leadingcompanies in the field of waste treatment, it currently has 68 waste-to-energyprojects with a combined capacity of 55,000 tonnes of garbage per day.
This is thefirst project in Vietnam funded by Everbright, he said, pledging that it willbecome a key environmentally-friendly project in the Mekong Delta.
For his part, Chairmanof the municipal People’s Committee Vo Thanh Thong said Everbright was selectedamong seven investors after the city sent a delegation to make a field-trip to thecompany’s projects in China.
He urged the investorto abide by Vietnam’s environmental standards and pledged to facilitate the implementationof the project.-VNA
