Final plans for the Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week 2015 was approved during a meeting between the Southwest Region Steering Committee and the Mekong Delta Can Tho city authorities and relevant bodies on March 5 in the city.

The festival, the first of its kind in the region, will take place between June 26 and July 2 in Phu Thu ward in the Cai Rang district, said Deputy Head of the Southwest Region Steering Committee Nguyen Phong Quang.

It will feature several events, including a fair with 1,200-1,500 booths, cuisine and street festivals, Miss Delta Pageant finale, an art performance contest for tour guides, and a series of conferences to promote regional tourism.

The events seek to enhance sustainable tourism development in the Mekong Delta region as part of Vietnam’s strategy through 2020; boost investment, particularly in green tourism; identify ways to create links between regional destinations and other local and international sites; and lure more visitors.

The Tourism Week is co-organised by the Steering Committee in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee.-VNA
