Can Tho works to develop Cai Rang floating market

The People Committee of Can Tho city has approved a project to preserve and develop the Cai Rang floating market with the aim of making it a favourite destination for international and domestic tourists in the Mekong Delta region, a local official has said.

Can Tho (VNA) – The People Committeeof Can Tho city has approved a project to preserve and develop the Cai Rangfloating market with the aim of making it a favourite destination forinternational and domestic tourists in the Mekong Delta region, a localofficial has said.

The municipal Department of Culture, Sports andTourism in 2017 will work with relevant bodies and Cai Rang district onimplementing the project, with focus on building infrastructure facility andexpanding tourism products of the market while preserving its century-oldoriginal values, said Le Minh Son, Deputy Director of the department.

The Cai Rang Floating Market on the Cai RangRiver was rated one of 10 most outstanding markets in the world by the UK RoughGuide magazine.

It sells fruits, vegetables and other specialties from Can Tho and from otherMekong Delta provinces.

The market is open very early until around 9am everyday. It attracts nearly 300– 500 trading boats. Of which, around 150 ships are permanent residential oneson the river.

The market lures 500 – 700 local and foreigntourists each day.-VNA

Air travel surges to 1.68 million passengers during holiday periods

Domestic air travel accounted for 675,140 passengers and 3,400 tonnes of cargo, marking declines of 7.5% and 11.6%, respectively. In contrast, international transport showed robust growth, surpassing 1 million passengers and reaching 24,050 tonnes of cargo, up 10% in passenger numbers and 10.6% in cargo volume.

Vietnam records 2 million foreign arrivals in April

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) said the figures highlight the country’s rising profile as a safe, stable and increasingly compelling destination. It is the first time Vietnam has surpassed 2 million foreign arrivals for four straight months, and the first time the January – April tally has reached 8.8 million.

Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang lead Thai tourists’ searches

Data from the online booking platform Agoda shows that Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest growth in searches from Thailand, reaching 134%, followed by Da Nang with a 58% increase. Other destinations such as Hong Kong (China) saw more modest growth.
