Leaders of Quang Nam province have proposed that national target programmes in the locality should be synchronised to avoid overlaps in investment.
They made the proposal at a working session with a team from the central Steering Committee on the building of new-style rural areas, led by Bui Van Nam, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security, on April 22.
They also asked for guidelines on the structure of the local bodies in charge of programme implementation.
According to Nam , Quang Nam has recorded a strong performance in its rural area building, bringing a new face to rural areas.
He also noted that more efforts should be made to attract investment from local businesses to the agriculture and rural sectors.
The province has increased the total area of large-scale fields to 17,000 hectares for the production of commercial agricultural products, according to a provincial report.
Last year, Quang Nam formed more than 80 fields for seed rice cultivation, while expanding its area for high-quality rice to 4,000 hectares. The ratio of mechanisation also rose to 75-85 percent of agricultural areas, it said.
To date, the province has seen 11 communes fulfilling 15-18 criteria of new-style rural areas.
Meanwhile, Ho Xuan Hung, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and now an advisor to the Steering Committee, shared some practical experience in the work.
He underscored the importance of strengthening science and technology application to agricultural production and the flexibility in mobilising resources for the programme.-VNA
