Hanoi (VNA) – Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen Phan Van Giang hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 9 for Deputy Commander of the US Pacific Command Bryan Fenton.
Speaking highly of defence ties between Vietnam and the US over the past years, Giang wished that both sides would work closely together to overcome post-war consequences in Vietnam, fulfill the United Nations peacekeeping mission, and enhance collaboration in personnel training in naval and military medicine, search and rescue, and legal enforcement at sea.
Fenton, for his part, affirmed that the relationship between the US and Vietnam has seen important progresses. He wished to continue receiving the Vietnamese Defence Ministry’s support in storing medical equipment for humanitarian activities, search for remains of US servicemen missing in action in Vietnam, and launch of the level-2 field hospital in South Sudan.
Earlier, Fenton met with Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Sen. Lieut. Gen Pham Ngoc Minh.-VNA
