China to resume operation of border gates with Vietnam in Lao Cai

The Chinese side has announced that it will completely resume the operation of border gates and paths with Vietnam in northern Lao Cai province from January 8, said Ha Duc Thuan, Vice Director of the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone.

Lao Cai (VNA) – The Chinese sidehas announced that it will completely resume the operation of border gates andpaths with Vietnam in northern Lao Cai province from January 8, said Ha DucThuan, Vice Director of the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone.

Specifically, the Chinese side will re-openits border for people, vehicles and goods in the railway border gate on NanxiRiver, the road border gate on Red River, Kim Thanh II International BorderGate, and the Lao Cai International Border Gate.

Thuan said that the board has sent a noticeto relevant agencies and businesses on the resumption, while preparing necessaryconditions to maintain smooth import-export and entry-exit activities in linewith regulation.

Over the past two years, China’s restrictionmeasures to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic have seriously affected import-export activitiesthrough border gates. The import and export value of goods and services via Lao Cai’s international border gates neared 1.7 billion USD inthe first nine months of 2022, down 39.4% year-on-year./.

Lao Cai steps up anti-smuggling crackdown, handles more than 1,220 cases

Among the cases were 367 involving the illegal trade and transport of prohibited or smuggled goods, 692 related to commercial and tax fraud, and 162 concerning counterfeit products, imitation goods and intellectual property infringements. Criminal proceedings were launched in 231 cases, with 406 suspects facing criminal proceedings, while 957 cases were settled through administrative penalties.
