Beijing (VNA) – China expressed its welcome to the establishment of the ASEAN Community on November 24, vowing to back the bloc’s integration.
The ASEAN Community is a landmark in ASEAN’s integration, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said regarding the 2015 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the ASEAN Community.
The first sub-regional community in Asia marks a higher stage of regional cooperation, he added, affirming that China supports ASEAN’s role in regional cooperation and will work with the bloc’s member states to enhance political trust, trade and cultural ties to build a closer China-ASEAN community of shared destiny.
The 2015 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the ASEAN Community was adopted at the 27th ASEAN Summit on November 22.
Accordingly, the ASEAN Community will be formed on December 31 and be comprised of three pillars – the Political and Security Community, the Economic Community and the Socio-Cultural Community.-VNA
