More than 1,200 foreign patients have received medical care and treatment at Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City’s largest, since the beginning of this year, according to the hospital’s statistics.
One-fourth of those patients came from developed countries like the United States, Japan, France, and Australia.
Dale Edwards Washington, a 56-year-old American living in Ho Chi Minh City, underwent an operation at Cho Ray Hospital this June for an Achilles tendon rupture. Six months after, he can now walk normally.
After a regular check at the hospital on December 11, he said he had doctors in the US examine the surgical wound, who said the operation was well done.
Washington added that he paid only 1,000 USD for the operation and following treatment, while the costs for similar treatment would be at least 15,000 USD in the US or 50,000 USD in Singapore.
Nguyen Huu Chuc, head of the hospital’s Eye Department, said that in recent years, many tourists took advantage of their trips to Vietnam to have cataract or Lasik eye operations, which have the same quality as those conducted overseas but at much lower expenses.
The hospital can also perform advanced medical procedures like heart surgery or stenting. Most recently, a Japanese patient received a stent implantation in an emergency. He has now recovered and in stable health conditions.-VNA
