The Hanoi Transport Department has proposed to the Ministry of Transport that city taxis are issued badges of a specific colour.
Director of the department Nguyen Quoc Hung said that the move aims to curb taxi firms registered in other provinces from operating their vehicles in Hanoi, which has been causing management difficulties for the municipal agencies.
Hung said that the department has also proposed that the validity period of the taxi badges be reduced from the current 12 months.
Taxi companies should be required to return old badges before getting a new one, he said.
Tthe ministry will consider the proposal on reducing the validity period carefully to avoid causing difficulties to the taxi companies when they apply for extensions, said head of the ministry's Vietnam Road Administration Nguyen Duc Thang.
Meanwhile, head of the ministry's Transport Department Khuat Viet Hung said that a colour code for taxi badges in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City was a good idea.
According to the municipal transport department, there are 107 taxi firm operating in the capital city at present.-VNA
