The Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee on Feb. 3 honoured 16 traditional craft villages and 17 artisans for 2009 in contributing to restoring and developing traditional handicrafts.
The honour was made in recognition of contributions villages and artisans made in preserving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural values.
This year’s honour brought the total awarded craft villages and artisans in Hanoi to 272 and 116, respectively.
The capital city now has 1,270 handicraft villages, employing almost 1 million labourers or 42 percent of the total workers in the city’s industrial and craft sectors.
The craft villages earned 7 trillion VND in 2009, accounting for 10 percent of the city’s industrial and craft production value./.
