Condolences extended to Indonesia over tsunami

Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, and PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 23 conveyed their condolences toIndonesian President Joko Widodo over the massive material and human lossescaused by the deadly tsunami that devastated Indonesia’s Banten and Lampungprovinces on December 22.

National AssemblyChairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also extended condolences to Speaker of thePeople's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia Zulkifli Hasan.

The Vietnamese leadersexpressed their deep condolences to Indonesian leaders over the great losses causedby the natural disaster which happened only three months after the quake andtsunami in Sulawesi province.

They also expressedthe Vietnamese people’s solidarity with and readiness to help ease theIndonesian people’s difficulties, saying they hope the Indonesian people wouldquickly overcome the consequences of the disaster and normalize their life.

The same day, DeputyPrime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh also sent his condolences toIndonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

According to localauthorities, as of December 23, the tsunami following a volcanic eruptionclaimed over 220 lives and wounded 800 others. Initial estimates showed thatabout 430 houses were destroyed.-VNA

Deputy PM hails success of State President’s recent Laos visit
