Conference boosts start-up in Da Nang

DaNang (VNA) – The Embassy of Australia in Vietnam and HATCH! VENTURES– a social enterprise and startup incubator, jointly held a conference to booststartups in the central city of Da Nang on October 7.

Theevent, the fifth of its kind and the first in Da Nang, drew 200 local start-uppersand students.

Addressingthe event, Australian Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Layton Pike highlighted thefriendship based on mutual assistance between Vietnam and Australia, sayingthat the Government of Australia highly valued the efforts of HATCH! withsupport programmes for startups and startup investment in Vietnam.

PhamTrung, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Business Incubator saidthe city has taken breakthrough steps to boost startups, including establishingthe nation’s first public-private partnership (PPP)-based business incubatorand organising annual startup events.

DaNang has also launched a project on developing a startupecosystem until 2020, with a vision that the city will become thestartup and innovation hub of ASEAN region by 2030.

Theproject aims to develop a startup culture and enhance the awareness among localyoung people about startups, while completing and issuing relevant policies.

Investmentwill be made in local business incubators and infrastructure for startups, and indeveloping a training system on startup.

Cooperationwill also be forged to mobilise more domestic and foreign resources indeveloping the startup ecosystem, with a focus on the PPP models.-VNA

Da Nang city tightens controls to prevent IUU fishing violations

The city’s authorities are tightening inspections and controls to prevent fishing vessels from violating IUU regulations, particularly in foreign waters, as part of efforts to help Vietnam have the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning lifted.

More preferential credit available to businesses

Under SBV requirements, commercial banks are to provide Vietnamese-dong loans to SMEs and growth-driving sectors at rates at least 1 percentage point per year lower than their average rates for loans of the same maturity. They are also required to consider waiving or reducing service fees for eligible customers in line with regulations and their financial capacity.

Vietnam, UK seek new growth drivers in technology, logistics

British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation as Vietnam - UK relations have been upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He said technology, finance, innovation and digital transformation are opening up new opportunities for cooperation, enabling businesses from both countries to connect, share experience and explore investment and business opportunities.

Over 60% of long-stalled projects have obstacles resolved

Of the 8,002 long-stalled projects, 4,938 completed the settlement of obstacles in line with conclusions of the Party Central Committee and resolutions of the National Assembly and Government, as well as relevant Government decrees and guiding documents as of July 20, up 564 projects from the previous month.

Vietnam Railways Corporation becomes Vietnam National Railway Group

Vietnam, New Zealand seek new impetus for trade ties
