Nearly 300 domestic and foreign professors and doctors gathered at the International Conference on Emergency Medicine that opened in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on March 26.

The five-day conference was coorganised by Hue University of Medicine and Pharmaceuticals, Hue Central Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical and Dental Ministry organisation of the US .

With four seminars, the conference offered a chance for managers, doctors, nurses and students in this field to improve their professional skills.

Delegates at the event also discussed the emergency system, especially issues regarding human resources and pre-hospital and hospital-based emergency treatment models.

In Vietnam , only 2 percent of patients receive first aid using ambulances, compared to 80 percent in Europe .

Pre-hospital emergency services still remain limited and the staff of medical emergency service do not receive intensive training in the field.

On this occasion, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmaceuticals will publish the Vietnamese version of the “Textbook of Adult Emergency Medicine” by Prof. Peter Cameron, President of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine.

The Health Ministry has also given a nod to the university to open a new department on general emergency training.-VNA
