Conference looks at archaeological research’s role in preserving Trang An complex

The role of archaeological research in the preservation of the Trang An Landscape Complex in the northern province of Ninh Binh was highlighted at a conference held in Ninh Binh on March 18.

Ninh Binh (VNA) – The role of archaeological research in thepreservation of the Trang An Landscape Complex in the northern province of NinhBinh was highlighted at a conference held in Ninh Binh on March 18.

Participantswere updated on latest results of an archaeological survey at Trang An and ageographical map of the complex.

According to PhD Ryan Rabett, director of the Trang An Archaeological Project,said that the project examines the impacts of weather, geology and terrain onlocal livelihoods and vice versa.

Measures to protect Trang An complex were also on table at the event.

Tran Van Tan, head of the Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and MineralResources, highlighted that the coordination between local authorities,enterprises and people has produced positive impacts on the preservation of thecomplex.

Scientific research will reveal the values of the complex in both geologicaland archaeological spheres, Tan said, adding that this will help raise localawareness of the heritage protection.

Attending the two-day conference, participants are set to visit Trang Aneco-tourism site and Moi and Hanh caves where a line-up of archaeological relicswere found.

The Trang An Archaeological Project will be carried throughout 2019.

Trang An complex is a World Natural Heritage site and includes Tam Coc-BichDong- a series of karst caves and mountain pagodas, the ancient and new BaiDinh pagoda and the Hoa Lu ancient capital.

The area, dotted with forest, lime mountains, rivers, lakes and dams, covers12,252 hectares.-VNA

Northern region to experience cold spell

The cold air is forecast to reach northeastern Vietnam from the evening and night of October 4 before spreading to other parts of the north and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue. Winds will shift to the northeast at levels 2-3 inland and levels 3-4 along coastal areas.

Floods affect over 16,000 homes, nearly 25,000ha of crops

The floods submerged and damaged 22,499ha of rice, crops and vegetables, along with 2,172ha of other crops. A further 1,175.62ha of aquaculture areas were affected. Some 1,999 metres of irrigation canals were eroded or damaged, while 15 schools were flooded.

Heavy rains cause widespread damage in Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa

Prolonged heavy rains from September 13–17 have caused flooding and landslides, damaging homes, crops, roads and infrastructure in Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa provinces, with local authorities mobilising forces for emergency response.

Ninh Binh establishes Kim Bang white-rumped langur conservation area

Covering a total area of 3,182ha, the conservation area comprises 3,016.81ha of natural forest, 64.25ha of plantation forest and 100.94ha of land without forest, with no water surface area. It is located in the Ly Thuong Kiet, Tam Chuc and Nguyen Uy wards of Ninh Binh province.
