Conference reviews 10-year implementation of social welfare policies

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Vietnam recently held a joint conference to evaluate the 10 years of implementation of social welfare policies in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Labour, Invalids andSocial Affairs and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Vietnam recently held a joint conference to evaluate the 10 years of implementation of socialwelfare policies in Vietnam.

Participants at the April 20 event agreed that in the 2012-2022period, social welfare policies in Vietnam have been developed in a complete,comprehensive and inclusive manner, becoming an important factor to ensure wellbeing for all people, especially the poor and disadvantaged people andthose from ethnic minority groups, mountainous and remote areas.

Notably, Vietnam had completed the Millennium DevelopmentGoal on poverty reduction 10 years earlier than the set deadline, and thecountry has been recognised by the international community as a model of hungerelimination and poverty reduction, they said.

Social insurance - the key pillar of social welfare - has drawnthe participation of a rising number of local residents, they said, stressingthat the majority of disadvantaged and needy people have receivedregular support.

However, they pointed out that there are still loopholes in the socialwelfare system in Vietnam, requiring further efforts for its completion./.

Ho Chi Minh City steps up law enforcement on fishing vessel monitoring system

Ho Chi Minh City has 4,449 fishing vessels, of them 4,301 equipped with VMS devices, making up 96.67%. Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, authorities found 1,729 cases of vessels losing VMS connection for six hours or more, issuing fines in 196 cases totalling nearly 6.6 billion VND (about 252,000 USD)
