Conference spotlights northern border defence war

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Vietnam Association of Historical Science (VAHS) jointly held a national conference in Hanoi on February 15 to discuss the northern border defence war (1979-2019).

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Academy of SocialSciences (VASS) and the Vietnam Association of Historical Science (VAHS)jointly held a national conference in Hanoi on February 15 to discuss the northernborder defence war (1979-2019).

VSS President Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan said that theconference is a chance to review the historical event in an honest andobjective manner, thus strengthening solidarity and friendship among those countriesand nations.

At the same time, the conference also aimed to reject any wrongful,distorted, and slanderous arguments intended to use the event to harm the Partyand State, or damage the Vietnam-China friendship relations, he said.

Sixty reports submitted to the conference affirmed thehistorical truth and the justice of Vietnam during the northern border defencewar.

Many reports provided theoretical and practical foundations,as well as lessons learnt from the war, contributing to educating on the unityand determination necessary to build a strong country, especially amidst thecomplicated regional and global situation at present with unexpected changes.

Participants showed gratitude towards soldiers and those whofought and sacrificed for the safeguarding of the nation’s border land, while popularisingpatriotic traditions and gratitude towards older generations.

The event also contributed to affirming the Party andState’s consistent policy of treasuring its relations with China in the spiritof “setting aside the past and looking forwards to the future,” as well asVietnam’s efforts to build a friendly, cooperative, equal, and win-winVietnam-China partnership. –VNA

Public order crime drops 22.55% in first half

The programme prioritises 286 remote border communes, wards and special areas, where coordination between local youth units is seen as crucial. Volunteers are deployed across three main functions: supporting officials with administrative procedures, helping people and businesses submit online applications and payments, and offering digital training through creative models such as mobile tech clinics and grassroots tech groups.
