The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh on May 5 held a ceremony to receive 21 pieces of coral from the Naval detachment and the people on the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

The coral, which symbolises the nation’s sovereignty over its seas and islands, are engraved with the names of each island, as well as their longitudes and latitudes.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Political Commissar of the Navy, Admiral Nguyen Cong Hoa, confirmed that the coral’s strength and durability reflect Vietnam’s sacred sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa (Paracels) archipelagos.

The presentation of the coral aims to educate and raise the awareness of the Vietnamese people, especially young people, on the importance of protecting the sovereignty of Vietnam’s continental shelf, its territorial waters and islands, he said.

The Secretary of Quang Ninh’s Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, Vu Duc Dam, said that the 21 pieces will be kept on display at the province’s museum.

He added that Quang Ninh’s Armed Forces and its people will continue to strive harder to increase production levels to help build a prosperous nation./.
