Hanoi (VNA) – A heavy engineering equipment operatorcourse opened within the framework of the UN Triangular Partnership Project (TPP)at the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department in Hanoi’s outskirts district of ThachThat on November 6.
The opening ceremony saw the presence of Julian Otinkorang, Deputy ProjectManager of the TPP, representatives of the Japanese Embassy, UN coordinatorsand international observers, among others.
It aims to increase capacity for rapid deployment of support forces for UNpeacekeeping missions, while enhancing understanding, friendship andcooperation in such operations between Vietnam and the UN, Japan and TPPmembers.
This is the second of its kind and the 12th international trainingcourse hosted by the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department in coordination withinternational partners.
With help from Japanese specialists, 20 Vietnamese officers will be equippedwith knowledge on the operation, maintenance and repair of heavy engineeringequipment.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen ChiVinh, who is also head of the steering committee forVietnam’s UN peacekeeping operations,highlighted the significance of training activities for Vietnamese peacekeepingsappers, for global peace and stability.
He expressed his hope that Vietnam and Japan and other countries will step uptriangular partnerships in UN matters, especially peacekeeping operations.
The course will close on December 13./.
