Cuban top legislator visits HCM City

HCM City (VNA) - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party CommitteeNguyen Thien Nhan met with visiting Chairman of the Cuban National AssemblyEsteban Lazo Hernandez on June 16.

At the reception, the city’s top leader lauded the importance of the Cuban toplegislator’s visit to Vietnam and thanked Cuba for giving support for Vietnamduring its past struggle for national independence and reunification.

HCM City spares no effort to enhance traditional friendship and cooperationbetween Vietnam and Cuba, Nhan stated.

For his part, Esteban Lazo Hernandez reiterated Cuba’s commitment to developingties and solidarity with Vietnam.

Expressing his gratitude toward Vietnam’s assistance for his country over thepast 20 years, he said Cuba wants to learn from Vietnam’s socio-economicdevelopment experience to successfully develop its own models for nationalgrowth in the new context.

Hernandez urged stronger cooperation between the two countries’ electedagencies and legislative bodies as well as boosting bilateral trade –investment.

After the meeting, the Cuban top legislator and his delegation had a discussionwith his host and representatives from the municipal People’s Council andPeople’s Committee on the apparatus of provincial-level political agencies.

The two sides examined the relationship among Partycommittees of different levels, people’s councils, people’s committees andlocal delegations to the National Assembly. Experience in mobilising resourcesfor socio-economic development was also a topic of discussion.
