Cultural centre brings Vietnam, Laos closer

The Vietnamese Cultural Centre in Laos (VCCL) has acted as a bridge for cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Laos, helping to build upon the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

This was stated by Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sunthone Sayachak at aceremony to mark the centre’s 15 th anniversary, in Hanoi on July 21.

On the occasion, the centre received the third-class Labour Order fromthe Vietnamese State for the great contributions it has made over thepast 15 years. First established on August 31, 1995, the VCCL wasVietnam’s first cultural centre overseas.

The centrehas carried out a number of cultural and arts activities in Vientianeand many other provinces in Laos. It has provided Vietnamese languagebooks and newspapers to Lao libraries, agencies and governmentdepartments as well as organised many training courses for Lao culturalofficials.

In 2010, the centre launched a contest forsongs written about President Ho Chi Minh, in which many famous Laomusicians took part.

Over the past 15 years, the VCCLhas fulfilled its task as an advisor to the former Ministry of Cultureand Information and the current Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourismin defining the content of joint initiatives by the two countries in thefields of culture, sports and tourism./.

Vietnam suggested JICA continue implementing a leadership capacity-building project for 2026–2028, aligned with Vietnam’s development priorities and four new pillars of bilateral cooperation - AI, digital transformation, smart cities and high-tech infrastructure; high-quality human resource development and institutional reform; green and circular economy development and disaster prevention; and social welfare, health care, elderly care and private-sector development.

ASEAN Future Forum 2026 highlights Vietnam’s role in shaping ASEAN agenda: Chinese scholar

Professor Qu Qiang of the Minzu University of China and commentator for China Global Television Network (CGTN) said the forum underscores Vietnam’s growing role as one of the countries helping shape ASEAN’s agenda. Topics such as unity and resilience, conflict prevention and AI governance address some of the region’s most pressing challenges, while new mechanisms including political-party dialogue and greater participation by cities and youth reflect efforts to modernise regional governance.
