The Damen-Song Cam Shipyard Co. Ltd on March 20 inaugurated facilities in phase I of the Damen-Song Cam Shipyard in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
Covering a total area of 42 ha in Thuy Nguyen district, the shipyard is designed to outfit 40 vessels a year in phase I and double its capacity in phase II, generating jobs for 1,500 local people.
Established in September, 2011, the DSCS is a joint venture between the Damen Group of the Netherlands and the Hai Phong-based Song Cam Shipyard - a member of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin).
According to Pim Schuurman, DSCS President , the factory, which specialises in building and outfitting various ships in accordance with European standards, is the most modern and largest joint venture of the Damen Group in a foreign country.-VNA
