Minister of National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh received visiting Admiral Kawano Katsutoshi, Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), in Hanoi on May 2.
At the meeting, the General said that Vietnam-Japan defence cooperation has experienced new developments which are reflected by visits of the two defence ministries’ leaders and the establishment of a deputy minister-level defence strategic dialogue mechanism between the two armies.
Thanh spoke highly of the intensive and extensive development of the two countries’ navies, focusing on training Vietnamese military students and sharing experience in building and developing naval forces.
For his part, Kawano Katsutoshi expressed his wish to continue strengthening the cooperation between the two armies in general and the two navies in particular.
During his stay in Vietnam, the Japanese guest paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and visited the Navy High Command and other units of the Vietnam People’s Navy.-VNA
