The People’s Court of the southern Long An province on October 29 gave Dinh Nhat Uy a 15-month suspended sentence for abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, legitimate rights and interest of organisations and/or citizens under Clause 1, Article 258 of the Penal Code.
According to the indictment of the provincial People’s Procuracy, 30-year-old Uy had a friend create a Facebook account in his name in 2010.
Uy first used his account to send messages to his friends. However, after his younger brother Dinh Nguyen Kha was prosecuted for propaganda against the State of Vietnam, Duy started to post articles, images and exchange information distorting the image of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and many organisations and individuals from November 2012.
The investigation determined that Uy prepared and posted a number of articles and images on his blog with false contents, distorting and affecting the prestige of State agencies, the legitimate rights and interests of organisations and citizens.
As a result, the provincial investigation agency decided to prosecute Uy on June 12, 2013, and detained him on June 15, 2013.-VNA
