Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam had reported a total of 65,046 cases of dengue fever nationwide and seven fatalities as of mid-September, revealed the Ministry of Health (MoH) on September 16.

The number marks a year-on-year plunge of 65.6 percent. However, it is forecast to increase due to the current rainy season.

The MoH has ordered preventive measures since the start of the year and asked localities to keep a close watch on the implementation of such measures.

It has conducted inspections at high-risks localities, held virtual events on the prevention of the disease, and arranged training courses for health workers.

The ministry also called on people to closely follow health regulations, such as covering all water containers and killing larvae regularly, among others

According to the MoH, on average, Vietnam reports more than 100,000 dengue cases yearly. However, the number last year hit 320,331, the highest in the last 32 years, with 53 deaths./.
