Minh held the meetings onSeptember 27 (New York time) with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for ForeignAffairs and Trade of Ireland, the foreign ministers of Malta, Morocco, Albaniaand El Salvador, and the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and LaFrancophonie of Canada.
The Deputy PM used the occasionsto discuss measures to further expand economic-trade ties and increase mutualvisits with the countries, and garner support for the early signing andapproval of the Vietnam-EU free trade agreement (EVFTA). He also sought the countries’backing of Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN SecurityCouncil in 2020-2021 tenure.

The foreign officials affirmed theimportance that their countries attach to bilateral ties with Vietnam, as wellas the support for Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UNSecurity Council.
They offered deep condolencesover the passing of President Tran Dai Quang.

He also affirmed that Ireland will continue to providedevelopment aid to Vietnam, which is the only country outside Africa thatreceives long-term aid of Ireland.
Ireland is willing to work withVietnam in hi-tech agriculture, mine removal and preparations for peacekeepingactivities, he said, adding that the country will sign and approve the EVFTAearly. Ireland is considering Vietnam’s proposal on exempting visa for foreignpassport holders, he said.
Malta’s Foreign Minister CarmeloAbela pledged to push for the early signing and ratification of the EVFTA, andurged the two countries to soon sign an MoU on adoption. He said Malta is readyto consider Vietnam’s specific proposals on investment promotion and protectionand cooperation on education-training.
The Minister of Foreign Affairsand International Cooperation of Morocco, Nasser Bourita, affirmed Morocco’ssupport of Vietnam as a candidate for the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure.He suggested the two countries enhance coordination at multilateral diplomatic hubsin New York, Geneva and Vienna to promote issues of common concern andmultilateralism.
