Deputy PM calls for Japanese investment in automobile, energy

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung called for more Japanese investment in automobile industry, energy and tourism which are fields with huge demand and development potential in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung called formore Japanese investment in automobile industry, energy and tourism which arefields with huge demand and development potential in Vietnam.

The Governmentofficial made the call while receiving Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure,Transport and Tourism Keiichi Ishii in Hanoi on December 25.

Dung told the guestthat in the first 11 months of 2018, Japan remained the largest investor in Vietnamwith a combined capital of nearly 8 billion USD, accounting for 26 percent ofthe country’s total newly-registered capital.

He appreciated Japan’sclose cooperation and support in developing transport, notably in technicalassistance for pre-feasibility studies of the north-south high-speed railwayproject, metro lines in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Terminal T2 at Noi BaiInternational Airport, Nhat Tan bridge, Cai Mep-Thi Vai and Lach Huyen ports,which have contributed to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

He asked that Japancontinue to help Vietnam in studying the implementation of large-scale infrastructureprojects, including urban railways, high-speed railways and highways.

The Deputy PM alsoexpressed his hope that Japan will share its experience with Vietnam inmanaging and upgrading infrastructure, and in personnel training in aviationand maritime industries.

He took the occasionto thank the Japanese Government and people for helping Vietnam respond toclimate change and address impacts of natural disasters, and proposed Japan providenon-refundable official development assistance (ODA) for projects to build a disasterprevention and control centre and to increase the capacity of reducing risks offlash floods and landslides in the northern mountainous region.

Minister Keiichi Ishiicongratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic development achievements,especially in infrastructure, tourism, and environmental protection.

He spoke highly of theVietnamese Government’s drastic leadership to timely remove obstacles in implementinginfrastructure development projects.

He voiced his beliefthat with the determination and efforts of the Government, ministries, sectorsand localities, the country’s infrastructure system will develop quickly, thuscreating the prerequisite for socio-economic development.

In the time to come,Japan is interested in important transport infrastructure projects that candrive growth such as the Long Thanh International Airport, high-speed railways,highways and urban railways in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other major cities.

Sharing his sympathy withVietnam over losses caused by disasters in 2018, he affirmed that Japan willcoordinate with Vietnam in installing early warning systems as well asimplementing construction and non-construction solutions to effectively copewith natural disasters.-VNA

Fitch Ratings affirms Northern Power Corporation at ‘BB+’ with stable outlook
