Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has underscored Vietnam ’s consistent policy of fostering cooperation with Japan during a reception for visiting Japanese Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Sakamoto Tetsushi.
During the meeting in Hanoi on July 23, Deputy PM Phuc spoke highly of Sakamoto’s visit and its aim to share Japan ’s experience in inspection, receiving citizens and dealing with administrative complaints.
Japan is Vietnam’s leading economic partner, with cooperation in official development assistance (ODA), investment and trade contributing effectively to Vietnam’s socio-economic development. There is still huge potential and demand for the two countries’ cooperation in the future, he said.
Vietnam and Japan should step up bilateral cooperation in the coming time, especially in such strategic fields as institutional perfection of market economy, human resources training and synchronous infrastructure building, the Deputy PM added.
Deputy PM Phuc called for assistance from the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to train officials, improve inspection capacity, administrative complaint settlement and ODA utilisation.
For his part, Sakamoto said Vietnam and Japan have witnessed strong development in all fields, particularly since the two countries’ agreement to upgrade their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2009.
The Japanese Deputy Minister expressed his hope that, on the basis of a 40-year long relationship and the high consensus and unceasing efforts of the two nations’ leaders and peoples, the Vietnam-Japan relationship will be further developed in all fields, in line with their aspirations, and actively contribute to maintaining peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.
On the same day, Japanese Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Sakamoto Tetsushi had a working session with Government’s Deputy Chief Inspector Tran Duc Luong.
Sakamoto introduced his country’s unique consultative mechanism to surmount administrative complaints, and affirmed that his visit is the starting point for stepping up cooperation and periodic professional exchanges between the two sides.
