Deputy PM: petty corruption erodes public trust

 

Hanoi (VNA) – Petty corruption has eroded trust of the people, businesses and investors, hindering socio-economic development, permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh admitted at a national teleconference in Hanoi on June 27.

The event aimed to popularise the PM’s Directive No.10/CT-TTg on preventing red tape against businesses and people.

Deputy Inspector General Tran Ngoc Liem said heads of several agencies have yet to set good example and impose strict penalties on violations.

Head of the National Assembly’s Ombudsman Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai suggested alternating positions to prevent the problem and using modern technology to watch against corruption behaviours.

The Government Inspectorate should launch a hotline at units to acquire public feedback, he said.

Binh affirmed that the Government always maintains a strong political determination to fight and drive back corruption, towards building a contingent of officials, civil cadres and public employees with discipline and integrity, improving business environment and national competitiveness, and achieving sustainable development goals.

He called for respect to the Directive at all levels in combination with the enforcement of the Law on Corruption Prevention and Control, and directions by the Party General Secretary cum head of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control.

Heads of ministries, agencies and localities must consider the fight against corruption, including petty corruption, a regular, continuous and long-term political task, he said.

The Deputy PM also took the occasion to call on the business community and people to join hands with the Government, the PM, departments and agencies in the effort.-VNA
