Deputy PM supports issuance of Hanoi Declaration by transport forum

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh DinhDung on October 28 expressed his support for the issuance of the HanoiDeclaration at the 12th Intergovernmental Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) Forum inAsia that is underway in Hanoi from October 28-30.

The forum ishosted by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Ministry ofNatural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Construction, the HanoiPeople’s Committee, the Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, and the UN Centrefor Regional Development (UNCRD).

Themed "AchievingSmart and Resilient City through Low Carbon and Intelligent TransportSystem", the event attracts 213 foreigners from 25 Asian countries and 122others at home.

In his speech, Deputy PM Dung said via a number of practicalactivities, the forum has made important contributions to achieving the UnitedNations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as building a transportconnectivity system in Asia against negative impact on environment and socialaffairs.

He affirmed that Vietnam is one of the countries thatactively built and launched the national plan to realise the Paris Agreement onclimate change with strong commitments

According to him, the country also approved the smart andsustainable urban development project for the 2018 – 2025 period withorientations to 2030, with pilot construction in several cities.

The official also took the occasion to ask the UNCRD to workwith countries and international organisations to further tap their support incapacity improvement activities and policy enforcement, thus fulfillingdeclarations issued at the event.

Participants at the event are discussing ways to developsmart cities and transportation, thus reducing greenhouse gas emission andenvironment pollution./.

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.
