A series of activities were held in the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien on April 28 to celebrate the forthcoming 60 th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

They included meeting between veterans from the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the families of those who lost their lives. Meanwhile, an exhibition explaining how the battle was won also took place.

The two events were hosted by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) Central Committee in conjunction with the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army and the provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

At the exchange, participants shared their memories about the historic battle, underlining the importance of the youth volunteers, transporting supplies to the battlefield.

The exhibition is displaying war keepsakes belonging to women who experienced the battle, reminding the public of their heroic struggle.

On the occasion, the VWU Central Committee presented 60 houses worth 1.2 billion VND (56,400 USD) to poor women in Dien Bien and nearly Lai Chau province and 12 gift packages costing over 1 million VND (about 47 USD) each to the mothers and wives of soldiers who lost their lives during the country’s anti-French resistance war.-VNA
