Dong Thap (VNA) – A delegation from the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap had a working session with Bordeaux Aquitaine metropolitan area Urban Planning Agency (A'Urba) on November 21, as part of their working visit to France.

The delegation was led by Phan Van Thang, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council

During the meeting, the French side introduced to the Dong Thap delegation the planning and development history of Bordeaux, one of France's typical examples of harmoniously combining heritage preservation and modern development.

In addition, the French shared how to implement projects for beautifying and restoring historic buildings, renovating housing and technical infrastructure, and building urban landscapes, in order to create a sustainable and identity-rich living space.

Bordeaux is also distinguished by the development and implementation of urban architecture management regulations, ensuring development in line with the city's cultural and historical values.

The Dong Thap delegation also studied the role, organisational model, and operating mode of A'Urba, and its relations with the community, specialised competent agencies, and regional authorities.

A'Urba is an agency with a specific organisational and operational framework for research, planning, and urban development in the region. With a team of experts from multiple areas, it not only provides advice on planning and development solutions for the local administration but also delivers social cricitism, ensuring a balance between economic, environmental, and social interests. A'Urba facilitates close collaboration with local, national, and international agencies, enhancing management efficiency and, in particular, communication work related to urban planning and development.

The working session provided valuable lessons for urban areas in Dong Thap province in formulating and implementing sustainable urban development strategies that both preserve heritage values and meet modernisation demands./.
