The Women’s Union of southern Dong Thap province on May 7 held a meeting to review the implementation of a project that helps children and families affected by flooding in the Mekong River Delta.
Financed by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) through Save the Children, the project promptly supported over 10 billion VND (476,000 USD) for poor students and households in the province’s eight communes.
Under the project, the localities repaired around 130 houses for poor families and offered employment for 840 households.
They also built two bridges and repaired toilets at schools and water supply stations while providing water-treatment equipment for over 1,300 households.
In addition, the project organised communication campaigns to raise the public’s awareness of environmental sanitation and health.-VNA
