DPRK club wins Vietnam Int’l Women’s Volleyball Tournament

Bac Ninh (VNA) - The 4.25 Club from the Democratic People’s Republicof Korea (DPRK) won the championship title of the International Women’sVolleyball Tournament – LienVietPostBank Cup 2019 after defeating LienVietPostBank team ofVietnam 3-0 (25-16, 25-14 and 25-15) in the final match on March 1.

Theannual event took place in the northern province of Bac Ninh from February 22to March 1, with the participation of four Vietnamese teams and fourinternational invitees.

TheVietnamese teams were Kinh Bac –Bac Ninh, LienVietPostBank, VTV Binh Dien Long An and Tien Nong Thanh Hoa,while the guests included China’s Fujian and Shanghai Fudan, Kazakhstan U23 andthe DPRK 4.25 Club.

The eight participants were divided into two groups and competed in a roundrobin format to decide the top two teams from each group that advanced to thesemifinals.

After eight days of competition with sportsmanship, the teams gave the fansfierce, exciting and professional matches.

With their superior height, resilient fitness and diverse attacking measures,the DPRK 4.25 Club performed impressively throughout the tournament and broughthome the overall trophy in a convincing fashion as they won all of theirmatches.

As the champions, the DPRK 4.25 Club walked away with 15,000 USD, whilesecond-placed LienVietPostBank and third-placed VTV Binh Dien Long An received 10,000USD and 6,000 USD, respectively. The tournament offered 40,000 USD up forgrabs, the largest sum in the system of women’s volleyball competitions inVietnam at present.

Inaddition, the organising committee presented seven individual prizes worth 2,000USD in total, including “best outside hitter”, “best middle blocker”, “bestsetter”, “best opposite”, “best libero”, “most comprehensive player” and “MissVolleyball”.-VNA
