Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to a national project that will see e-passports, which use chipset technology to prevent forgery, next year.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Security and digital signatures will be issued by a centre within the ministry.
Dung has asked the Ministry of Security and Ministry of Finance to work with relevant agencies to submit a pricing structure proposal for the e-passports.
If a draft national programme of information technology for the 2011-15 period is approved, all passports issued by 2015 will use the new technology and all Government agencies will be equipped to supply digital signature and identification services.
E-passports are currently used by 45 countries around the world./.
