President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has highlighted the role of education in promoting socio-economic development in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, saying that this should be a key to remove bottlenecks in the locality’s development process.

Hanoi (VNA) - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has highlightedthe role of education in promoting socio-economic development in the northern mountainousprovince of Ha Giang, saying that this should be a key to remove bottlenecks inthe locality’s development process.

The State leader made the suggestion at a ceremony to celebrate the 130th founding anniversary of the province's establishment on December 8, during which he urged thelocal authorities to pay heed to improving the quality of education.  

Education must be a decisive factor to help local people accessknowledge, skills and experience, and improve their self-learning capacity, hesaid.

The President also emphasised the particularly importance ofsocial policies in ensuring social security and promoting poverty reduction inthe province, noting that the locality needs to increase investment in education,and ensure health care and welfare for its people.

Ha Giang should find a new economic growth model on the basis ofits own potential and advantages, and focus on improving the business and investmentenvironment, accelerating administrative reforms, and mobilising investmentresources, he said.

Priority should be given to infrastructure upgrade and developmentand key economic sectors, President Phuc added.

He asked the local authorities to ensure comprehensivedevelopment of people living in ethnic minority areas, focusing on programmesand projects on sustainable poverty reduction.

The President also requested the province to give special attentionto building a firm posture of all-people national defence, ensuring religioussecurity, and rural and border security, protecting the environment, adaptingto climate change, and preserving and promoting cultural identities of ethnicgroups.

Earlier the same day, President Phuc offered incense to commemorate heroes andmartyrs at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs' Cemetery, offered flowers in tribute to late President Ho ChiMinh at his statue in the campus of the provincial Party Committee.

The same day, President Phuc visited and presented giftsto families of war veterans, poor ex-revolutionaries and households whoreceived housing support in Viet Vinh commune.

Over 5,100 families of warveterans and poor households have benefited from a support programme on houseconstruction over the past more than two years under Decision No.1953 bythe provincial Party Committee. 

From 2015 to now, Ha Giang’s economy has grown stably, with its GDP growth reaching an average of6.8 percent.

The provincial 17th Party Congress set to develop HaGiang into a locality with developed trade, services, tourism and agriculture./.

According to historical records, the area once served as an operational base for units of Regiments 609, 66, 24 and 320, as well as staff and logistics agencies of the Central Highlands front (B3) during the 1966–1969 period. Between 2020 and 2025, the corps had already recovered remains from 46 martyrs in the Chu Pa mountain area.
