Efforts to find 22 victims in mountain landslide hitting army barracks
Search and rescue forces are working to find twenty two 22 officers and soldiers who were missing after a landslide engulfed their base in the mountainous area of Quang Tri Province on October 18.

The incident in Quang Tri province occurred at 1:25am on Oct. 18 in Cop hamlet where 27 officers and soldiers of Defence - Economic Division 337 under Military Zone 4 stayed to help local residents overcome disaster consequences. As of 4:45 pm of October 18, 14 bodies had been found in a landslide that left 22 officers and soldiers of the Defence - Economic Division 337 under Military Zone 4 missing in Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district, the central province of Quang Tri.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on October 18 issued a dispatch asking for greater efforts to rescue operations and settlement of consequences of landslides in the central provinces of Thua Thien – Hue and Quang Tri.
The death toll during recent severe flooding in the central region reached 84 while 38 others were missing as of 6pm of October 18, reported the Office of the Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
