Bodies of 14 Quang Tri landslide victims found

As of 4:45 pm of October 18, 14 bodies had been found in a landslide that left 22 officers and soldiers of the Defence - Economic Division 337 under Military Zone 4 missing in Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district, the central province of Quang Tri.

Quang Tri (VNA) –As of 4:45 pm of October 18, 14 bodies had been found in a landslide that left22 officers and soldiers of the Defence - Economic Division 337 under MilitaryZone 4 missing in Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district, the central provinceof Quang Tri.

Search and rescue forces areworking to fix landslide-hit areas along the road lead to the landslide site inHuong Phung. The road is expected to be cleared on October 19 morning andcompetent agencies will bring the bodies to a hospital in Dong Ha city.

A group of sappers,travelling about 2km on foot, reached the scene to search for the victims.

Permanent Vice Chairman ofthe provincial People’s Committee Ha Sy Dong said on October 18 that theincident occurred at 1:25am the same day in Cop hamlet where 27 officers andsoldiers of the division stayed to help local residents overcome disasterconsequences. Five of them have been saved.

Later on 6:30am, a local search and rescue teamincluding police, militia and residents arrived at the scene./.
