The group said the storm caused heavy damage to the local powertransmission network, cutting supply to 246,853 customers. Total lossesand repair costs amounted to 21.4 billion VND (around 1 million USD).

Storm Rammasun swept through the northern mountainousprovinces on July 19, unleashing flash floods, landslides and lightningstrikes, with Ha Giang, Lang Son and Lai Chau provinces worst hit.

The storm killed at least 27 people and caused economic losses ofaround 125 billion VND (5.87 million USD), according to the SteeringCommittee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and Search andRescue.

A total of 7,000 houses were submerged orhad their roofs blown down while 4,000 ha of rice and other subsidycrops were inundated.

The ferocious storm also left at least 46 people dead in China, and nearly 100 in the Philippines.-VNA
